St Mary's Gate, former North Gate of town, with chapel over. Partly demolished in Civil War, rebuilt 18th-19th century. Much restored in good condition. Retains original steps and entrance to chapel. St Mary's Chapel founded 1415. North wall with original arched doorway remains in good condition incorporated in garden walling. No change. Published 1:2500 survey correct. (5)
St Mary's Gate, medieval, rebuilt early or mid-19th century. Former town gate, became redundant after diversions of London Road. Dressed and knapped flint with Pulborough stone dressings. 3 storeys. Listed Grade II. (6)
St Mary's Gate. In the kitchen garden of the castle, west of the church. Made up in the 19th century from fragments of a medieval gate. Only the jambs of the arch were left by 1780. (7)
The chapel of St Mary, remains of which may still be seen on the north side of the kitchen garden of the castle, was built in 1415 and partially demolished in 1822. (8)
