Summary : The earthen remains of part of the Second World War anti-invasion stop line constructed across the Hoo Peninsula from the Medway to the Thames. This section was located to the south of Cliffe village and was formed by a ditch, the north-western end of which crossed a lane called West Street and cutting down into the edge of a large quarry. The quarry itself appears to have acted as section of the anti-invasion obstruction. The structural remains of this anti-tank obstruction were visible as a cropmark which were mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project.
