Summary : Remains of two successive aqueducts carrying the Trent and Mersey Canal over the River Dane, adjacent to the modern steel aqueduct. The river has deepened its bed and changed course due to mining subsidence. The first, and probably earlier of the two, is of late 18th century date, has a coping of wing wall of abutment in waste ground. The ground to the left is the fill of the later aqueduct. The later aqueduct is represented by the remains of a two-arched span in blue brick. The right abutment has settled and is hidden from view. |
