More information : Roman Road RR 670. Chester to The Wirral (Raby) A road ran north-westward from Chester up the spine of the Wirral. At first, the main Hoylake road may generally represent it as far as Mollington and also lanes and footpaths past Capenhurst to Ledsham. At this point the course becomes certain for it is followed by minor roads and lanes for three miles to Street Hey, east of Willaston. at one point by The Oaks, Ledsham, a bank and line of old trees mark it across a field to rejoin the lane beyond. North of Street Hey it is followed by hedgerows to Rabyhouse Farm, where a lane continues it for a further half a mile but then becoming lost. recent work has confirmed the road by sections examined near Street Hey where cobbled metalling was laid on a layer of sand. The road has been traced for a further mile, on the east side of Hargrave Lane where it was sectioned. It may well be associated with the remains of a timber bridge between Monks' Ferry and Bidston (SJ 38 NW 3). (1)
