Historic England Research Records

Monument Number 1202171

Hob Uid: 1202171
Location :
North Yorkshire
Richmondshire
East Witton
Grid Ref : SE1750085500
Summary : Lumps of slag found just outside the precinct of Jervaulx Abbey indicate the possible site of a bloomery or industrial complex connected with the abbey
More information : Lumps of iron tap slag were noticed in the vicinity of SE 175 855 in Jervaulx Park during fieldwork for the RCHME Jervaulx Abbey Survey, where the ground had been recently disturbed by the insertion of uprights for a wooden horse jump. Although the slag has not been dated, the findspot lies just outside the area of the abbey precinct and could denote the position of a bloomery associated with the abbey. (1)
