Location :
Lincolnshire

Non Civil Parish
Grid Ref : SK9763071740
Summary : Site and remains of the South Roman gateway of the upper town at Lincoln. Although the arch of the gate was destroyed 1709-10, the east passage wall of a small side-arch still exists behind 44 Steep Hill. The remains project about 14 feet in front of the wall. Sympson stated that the gate stood a little aove the Mediaeval Bailgate. The remains were exposed again in 2001, and confirmed that they form part of the outer wall of the eastern carriageway and of the spina of the south gate. The western arch of the double carriageway was on the line of Steep Hill.
