Summary : Fort Number 8 of London's Civil War defences, known as Strawes Fort. It was a large work located at Islington Upper Pond, now Claremont Square reservoir. Lithgow described it as an eight-angled work, and vertue shows it as a rectangular work with a demi-bastion at each angle. It was outside the main line of the defences, but joined to them via a rampart which roughly followed the line of Amwell street. |
