A wooden station on the Hammersmith branch came into use at Westbourne Park on 1st February 1866 and was reconstructed to open as a joint station spanning the branch and Great Western main lines on 1st November 1871, thereby facilitating interchange for passengers between west London and the west of England without the need to travel into Paddington.
