More information : [NZ 5952 1267] Tumulus [O.E.]. (1) A revised survey (25" 1928) of this cairn has been made. It is situated on the summit of Newton Moor and has a diameter of 10.0 m. and an average height of 1.0 m. It is constructed of loose sandstone rocks. The centre of the cairn has been mutilated and this depression is now occupied by a boundary stone. (2) 0125 Newton Moor, Guisborough NZ 5952 1267 This stone cairn is one of several burial mounds (0108, 0125, 0126, 0234, 0476 and 0498) prominently sited on a north-west/south-east ridge on Newton Moor above 300m O.D. It measures 12m in diameter and stands 1.5m high at its northern edge, 1.8m high on the south side. The centre has been subjected to unrecorded excavation and partly refilled with the spoil. The centre has 2 boundary stones set into it, bearing the legend TKS 1815, with RY 1752 GIII on the reverse. The cairn is a scheduled ancient monument. 0126 Newton Moor, Guisborough NZ 5948 1265 The mound is situated 50m south of 0125 on the Newton Moor ridge at 310m O.D. It is of small stone construction, measuring 4m diameter and 0.2m high. The centre has been mutilated. It is a scheduled ancient monument. (3)
