Summary : A small hexagonal concrete structure, possibly a Second World War pillbox, is visible on aerial photographs taken in 1942. The structure is located north east of the centre of Hoo St Werburgh. The small pillbox was probably associate with the Hoo Stop Line (Monument 1542577), a system of anti tank ditches, pillboxes and gun emplacements constructed in 1940 across the south western third of the Hoo Peninsula, from the Medway to the Thames. The pillbox faces east towards a section of the anti tank ditch (Monument 1542610), and is associated with other pillboxes in the vicinity (Monuments 1426022 and 1418685). It appears to have been destroyed by quarrying by 1946. |
