More information : (TL 98252440)Roman Foundations found AD 1938 (NAT). (1)

A simple rectangular temple on the grammer school sports field,
seen as a crop mark in 1938 and again in 1947 when exploratory
excavations were carried out by A. F. Hall (see plan). Lewis
considered that it was probably originally of timber enclosed
by the polygonal ditch. Later rebuilt in stone with the temenos
wall and oblong building to the south contemporary. Pits in the
temenos contained second century pottery and coins from Claudius
to Constans. Also two inscribed bronze plaques dedicated to
Silvanus and Silvanus Callirius, and a bronze stag.

Temenos surveyed at 1:2500 by F1 during excavations. (2-4)
