More information : [SK 5141 9890] Tower: A solid semi-circular tower projecting from the outer face of the curtain wall, the tower base is strongly splayed. Originally the tower rose above the wall walk, whence steps led to its summit. (1) The remains of this mediaeval tower are in a good state of repair and stand as high as the adjoining castle wall which abuts it on its eastern side. The tower is of same construction as the wall, it is semi-circular with the lower 2.0m falling away in sloping masonry like a talus similar to the keep. [SK 59 NW 5.1] Diameter of tower 5.0m., at ground level it is 7.0 m. (2) This tower has been incorrectly described by Auth. 2. It has a diameter of 5.4 m. with a splayed base measuring 7.3 m. across. The splaying commences 3.7 m. from ground level. The tower stands higher than the curtain wall on either side and has had its top facing removed, revealing the inner core of rubble.
