More information : (SD 9427 5084) Broughton Hall (NAT) (1) II Broughton Hall *Two-storey ashlar C.18/C.19. Centre block with nine windows per full storey. Central Ionic portico. Square headed door with triangular pediment on consoles. Ground storey windows have cornices on consoles. Giant pilasters between windows. Cornice over second storey. Balustraded parapet over portico with carved, wreathed and crested shield of arms over. A dormer storey has a central bay over the portico, Three sided with one window per side with pediment over front face. At either side is a two-storey piece spanned by pediment and with a similar face with engaged Ionic column either side. One window per storey, that in the ground storey having three lights, with Ionic columns for mullions carrying a cornice over which is a semi-circular relieving arch with medallion in tympanum. To the right is a lower C.19 two-storey extension with five windows per storey, eaves cornice and balustraded parapet, and a clock tower with three windowed stages. Clock above this, and over the clock an octagonal stage, over which eight Corinthian columns carry a cupola. For full description and illustrations see "Country Life", April 1950.
