Monument Number 922148

Hob Uid: 922148
Location :
Staffordshire
East Staffordshire
Tutbury
Grid Ref : SK2096029120
Summary : Tower, built c1450, of Tutbury Castle (SK 22 NW 2).
More information : (SK 20962912). The existing tower at the SE angle of the castle was
completed soon after 1450.
It contains two large chambers approached by a common newel staircase
symmetrically placed between them. Beneath each chamber there is a
cellar which was designed to be vaulted, but in both cases was left
incomplete, a timber floor being inserted in its place. A large
Perpendicular window indicates that the tower was residential rather
than defensive. (1)
