Summary : The post medieval landscape park and pleasure grounds to Shugborough Hall, were laid out from 1740 by Thomas Anson. Re-landscaping and the enlarging of the park took place in 1795-1805 and was by John Webb. The formal garden was designed by Willian Andrews Nesfield and laid out circa 1855. Probable garden features, trackways and hollow ways within the grounds of Shugborough Hall are visible as earthworks and cropmarks on air photographs. The features were mapped as part of the Staffordshire NMP project and most appear to be extant on the latest 2010 vertical photography. (1-2)
More information : Landscape park and pleasure grounds to Shugborough Hall. The grounds were created circa 1743-73 with additions of 1795-1805 by John Webb. The formal layout was created in 1862 following a design proposed by W A Nesfield in 1855 and restored after 1966. (1)

Landscaping took place from 1740 by Thomas Anson. Relandscaping and the enlarging of the park took place in 1795-1805 and was by John Webb. The formal garden was designed by Willian Andrews Nesfield and laid out circa 1855. (2)

Elements of the post medieval landscape park consisting of garden features, trackways and hollow ways within the grounds of Shugborough Hall are visible as earthworks and cropmarks on air photographs centred at SJ 9903 2214. The features were mapped as part of the Staffordshire NMP project and most appear to be extant on the latest 2010 vertical photography. (3-4)
