Summary : The North Bastion at the Tower of London was constructed between 1848 and 1852 midway between Legge and Brass Mount in response to fears of a Chartist uprising. It was a massive stone tower of three storeys and replaced a projecting timber sentinel box of unknown date. It was destroyed on 5th October 1940 after taking a direct hit during a bombing raid.
