Summary : Roman road; described by the Ordnance Survey in 1955 as a terrace-way, 5.0m wide. Part of its foundations were found by trenching in three places. A straight scarp, 0.4m high, delineating the north-west edge of Stanegate, occurs at the edge of a natural, somewhat marshy terrace providing a gentle ascent from the crossing of Poltross Burn. |
