More information : (SU 09873108) Almonry (NR) (1)
The Bellhouse Court, now called the Almonry was the only part of the abbey that Lord Pembroke did not pull down when he built Wilton House (c. 1543), probably because it was not monastic but the court house of a barony that the abbey happened to hold. (2)
The Almonry is a pre-Reformation building with Medieval doorways to the lower and upper storey, though the approach steps to the upper one have now vanished. Each storey has some Medieval windows but additional modern ones have been inserted. The walls are of ashlar buttressed at each end and the steeply pitched roof has modern brick tiles. It is now in use as a store. Photographs. (3)
