Monument Number 11426

Hob Uid: 11426
Location :
Cumbria
Carlisle
Non Civil Parish
Grid Ref : NY4000057080
Summary : Conjectural site of a Roman gateway for the Roman fort.
More information : (NY 40005708) Gateway (R) (1)

"At Stanwick was an arched gate through the wall". (2)

The trunk road (RR7f) from the south must have passed through the wall not far from the west wall of the fort (NY 45 NW 2), and Stukeley was doubtless right to infer that there was a gateway for it. (3)
