Summary : Alternatively Caesar's Tower. Also formerly known as The Magazine Tower, The Deanery and The Shire Hall. Three-storeyed Castle Gate tower of Chester Castle with Chapel of St Mary de Castro to the first floor. Late C12th or early C13th with additions and alterations after 1302, and refaced by Thomas Harrison in 1818. Further repairs in 1923 and 1952. This is the only part of Chester Castle which survived the C18th fire which destroyed the rest of it. Bunter sandstone ashlar with metal roof.
