Grange Hill Station

Hob Uid: 1314256
Location :
Essex
Epping Forest
Chigwell
Grid Ref : TQ4498092540
Summary : Grange Hill was opened on 1st May 1903 by the Great Eastern Railway on their Ilford-Woodford loop line. For the Central line projection from Liverpool Street, as laid down in the 1935-40 New Works Programme, Grange Hill was to become an Underground station on this new extension. Following wartime damage Grange Hill was heavily and unsympathetically reconstructed in 1948. It served the new Hainault London County Council estate and, as at Chigwell, the platforms were extended for eight-car tube trains. The station opened to Central line trains on 21st November 1948.
