Summary : Cropmark of a rectangular enclosure, a Roman fortlet. Located a short distance east of the A6 which follows the line of the Roman road and linked the Roman forts at Brougham and Old Penrith. The northern half of the fortlet is visible as cropmarks. The site was rectangular with rounded corners and measures approximately 48m by 50m. The ditch which defines the northern side of the fortlet measures approximately 38m long but only about 14m of the east and west ditches are visible; scheduled. |

A Roman fortlet at Salkeld Gate. (2)
Nothing visible on the ground. (3)
At Salkeld Gate cropmarks revealed a small rectangular enclosure with rounded angles. The north side is about 120 ft long, but only some 45 ft of the east and west sides is visible north of a hedge. This seems to be another fortlet like those at Castrigg (NY 62 SE 4) and Brougham (NY 52 NW 7). (4)
