An Iron Age/ Roman trackway, field system, enclosures, ditches and pits are visible as cropmarks on air photographs centred at SE 3861 2639.
The principal element of the complex is a long trackway running from SE 3815 2607 to SE 3873 2666 for a distance of over 1km. This feature is also visible in the complexes to the north-east (SE 32 NE 87/ UID 1389317) and south-west (SE 32 NE 73/ UID 1389238). On both sides of the trackway is an extensive coaxial field system of rectangular fields.
At least 3 ditched curvilinear enclosures, at SE 3848 2615, SE 3846 2620 and SE 3812 2594, and 9 ditched rectilinear enclosures, at SE 3815 2601, SE 3819 2605, SE 3821 2600, SE 3832 2611, SE 3842 2614, SE 3852 2615, SE 3851 2617, SE 3856 2619 and SE 3862 2624, are visible in association with the fields and trackway. The rectilinear enclosures range in size from 19m by 25m to 71m by 85m. Two of the curvilinear enclosures are fragmentary and the third measures 73m by 23m.
Various sections of ditch and pits are also visible. A Prehistoric/ Roman road runs through the complex (SE 32 NE 23/ UID 921569). (2-4) |
