More information : Mess facilities at the former Driffield RAF airfield, now Alamein Barracks. They were built between 1936 and 1938, officially described as "Dining Room and Institute 1482-6/36". It was modified in 1965 as a servicemen's club and NAAFI shop named the "Drifft Inn". The brick building has two storeys with two projecting entrance bays. The roofs are flat. The building was known to be extant in 1998, when it was photographed. The article does not list this building as one of those that are in regualar use by the Army Cadets, and there is no mention of its condition in 1999. The plan of the wartime site shows in the centre of the barracks area , surrounded by H-Blocks and marked building 22.(1)
The position of the building as noted above concords with a building depicted on the OS sheet TA 05 NW , 1970 at TA 0070 5659. (2)
