| Summary : The house is attached on one side to one end of Archbishop Kempe's gatehouse built some time between 1426 and 1451 (see parent record). The house is built of brick with ashlar dressings and a pantile roof, and is of two storeys with attics. The house was probably built in the late 17th century and had a central stair tower and was two rooms deep in plan. Alterations in the second half of the 18th century included the doubling of the width of the kitche, the addition of the eastern stairs and the enlargement of the northwestern room. The house was modernised in the late 19th century and the room above the kitchen was enlarged circa 1900. The house was being restored by the owner in 1982. |
