Summary : Fort Number 20 of London's Civil War defences, known as Fort Royal. Described by lithgow, and shown by Stukeley and by Vertue as a rectangular fort with corner bastions. Lithgow reported 24 cannons at the fort. According to Defoe, the fort and four bastions remained in 1724. The sides appear to vahe been 125 metres long. The Imperial War Museum now stands on the site. |
