Summary : A Second World War bombing decoy at Rand, which was built to deflect enemy bombing from Royal Air Force Scampton airfield. This was a 'Q-type' decoy that displayed a series of lights to simulate an active airfield. It was later used as a decoy for Royal Air Force Wickenby airfield and Royal Air Force Ludford Magna airfield. The Rand decoy was in operation between June 1940 and August 1942. An uncovered control building with its entrance fronted by a blast wall survives at the site in good condition.
More information : A Second World War 'Q-type' bombing decoy located at Rand (TF 133 796). This decoy was constructed to deflect enemy night bombing from RAF Scampton, and later used as a decoy for RAF Wickenby and RAF Ludford Magna. The Rand decoy was in operation from 19-JUN-1940 to 12-AUG-1942. (1)

Aerial photography shows that by 1976 an uncovered control building at the decoy site, with an entrance and blast wall, survived in good condition. (2)
