Summary : An early medieval domestic building that is said to have been used as a synagogue. It was built in c1170, altered in the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries and is situated on the western side of Steep Hill, north west of its junction with Danes Terrace. The house was constructed of coursed rubble and dressed stone with a double pitch tile roof with brick chimney stacks at each gable. The building is three stories high with an attic range lit by two dormer windows with segmental heads. The ground floor has a tile coped stone plinth that rises over a central door under a wooden lintel. Flanking the door are two casement shop windows with attached doorways. The second and third floors have a two window range of three light casement windows under wooden lintels. |
