Full description
The existence of the moat at Penhallam has long been recognised (b6, 97). It is subcircular in shape, and encloses an area approximately 48m e-w by 54m n- s. It varies in width from 25ft-38ft (8m - 12m) and in depth from 4ft (1m) - 8ft (2m). The moat was filled with water drained from the surrounding marsh, and overflow ran into the stream (b6, 97). Reasons for doubting that this moat was associated with a C11 ringwork have been listed above (2059.2).
