Full description

Remains of occupation earlier than the alleged ringwork (said to be c1066-1086) consisted of a sunken floored building and post-holes, found under the floors of the chambers at the upper (east) end of the C13 hall (b6, 98, 103, 125). Apparently there was no associated pottery. The features are said to have been sealed beneath the footings of the ringwork bank - though this is not shown on the section (b6, 103).
