Full description
At the base of the north side of the motte at Trematon Castle, the bedrock has been quarried back for a short distance. Cut into the rock is a tunnel approx 5.0m long, 1.0m wide and 1.5m high. At the end, the west side widens out to form a space 2.0m wide. The rock-cut sides of the cave are covered in fine luminous moss. Possibly a grotto embellishing the garden of the early C19 house (h1).
