Full description
Unprovenanced finds from Carn Brea hill include the blade end of a sandstone axe, a hammer-stone and a whetstone (b7). Mercer noted over a dozen greenstone axes from the C19th excavations (b3) and Evans (et al, b2) allocated the axes and roughouts from this collection to Group XVI; apparently the greenstone artefacts matched the rock-types found in the Camborne area (?) though a factory site has yet to be found. Mercer claims that axes of this type were worked on Carn Brea, within the eastern summit enclosure (b4).
