Full description
A late Bronze Age socketed axe was found 'west of the monument' at Carn Brea by Mr G Dyer on 2nd June 1988. It was projecting slightly above the turf, with a small stone projecting beside it, and as the axe was incomplete, he returned and found another part of it beneath the turf. A site visit was made and the findspot established, on the north side of the 'Giant's Couch', just north of the footpath. It was observed that another turf 1m to the west had also been lifted and replaced, but Mr Dyer could provide no explanation for this (h1).
