In 1896 a building to accommodate the steam engine which generated power for the two minefield searchlights below St Mawes Castle was constructed. Power was provided by boilers, requiring generally 2-3 hours to raise steam. This was replaced by a new building in 1901 nearby.

In 1896 a building to accommodate the steam engine which generated power for the two minefield searchlights below St Mawes Castle was constructed. Power was provided by boilers, requiring generally 2-3 hours to raise steam. This was replaced by a new building in 1901 nearby (1).
