Several field boundaries are visible as earthworks and cropmarks on aerial photographs of 1946, to the south of Barton Farm, Abbotsham. Three of the boundaries, those at circa SS42602640, SS42652634 and SS42572630 are visible as earthworks in 1946. The fourth, at SS42562619 is visible as a cropmark in 1969. Those features at circa SS42602640, SS42652634 and SS42562619 are depicted on the 1839 tithe map for the parish of Abbotsham, but not on the Ordnance Survey 25inch first edition map, published in the 1880s. This might suport the interpretation that they had passed out of use by circa 1880. The remaining features are not depicted on the tithe, and therefore might have passed out of use prior to 1839. The boundaries are curvilinear in form and fit within the surrounding field system as portrayed on the historic maps, which has been characterised as being based on medieval open-field enclosure. It is probable the former field boundaries are also medieval in origin. The earthworks appear to have been mostly levelled by April 1971, and the eastern extent severly damaged or destroyed by major landscaping by July 1999.
