A possible semi-circular cropmark of unknown date and function is visible on aerial photographs of July 1956, centred on circa SS21902031 on a south facing ridge to the north of South Hole Farm, Hartland. The visible C-shaped cropmark defines an area approximately 35 metres in diameter. It is possible it is forming over a bank defined enclosure of prehistoric date. However, the cropmark is visible within an area outlined with marks created by agricultural activity, known as a ‘ploughing envelope’, and the possibility it is agricultural in origin must be considered. It is not visible on later aerial photographs.
