Higher Hooktown Wood was visited on 11th February 1976. A site was examined here in response to information from the Countryside Commission. The south part of the wood covers two or three slight terraces and one or more linear banks. This is thought to represent medieval lynchets protected by the wood.

MDV1024 records possible medieval lynchets but LiDAR evidence suggests earthworks perhaps more akin to a lost farmstead. The name of the wood on the first edition OS map is Higher Hooktown Wood - could there have been a farm here called Higher Hooktown?

Linear and curvilinear ditches or hollows are visible as earthworks.
