Full description
Foster, K. + Skinner, R., 01/2016, A30 to A303 Honiton to Devonshire Inn Improvement Scheme, Honiton, Devon (Report - Assessment). SDV359378.
DBA undertaken along a corridor associated with the A30/A303 between Honiton and Devonshire Inn. This study is intended to inform the development of options for improvements to the A30/A303 between Honiton and Devonshire Inn.
Stables used as a cow house at Preston Farm.

Gable ended lofted stable built down the hillslope on west side of yard, facing east, in 1841 to 1890. Ooriginally used as stable. In circa 1960-70 stalls for calves constructed.
Rubble stone under 3 A-frames with relatively low lap jointed collars (all joints nailed). Double ridge and 3 sets of slender purlins resting on backs of principals. Corrugated iron covering. 15 metres by 5.75 metres by 3.5 metres high to eaves.
Five bays long. Front has central wide doorway flanked by wide windows. All openings have flat arch heads of stone voussoirs. South end has hayloft loading hatch doorway and north end has ventilator or owl hole. East front has doorway, without frame, but with iron hangers for a 2-flap door and 2 windows with circa 1960 iron framed top-tilting casements. South end has 20th century plain frame and plank door. Internal feeding passage and hayloft.
