Quarries of probable post-medieval to modern date are depicted on historic maps and visible as earthwork pits on aerial photographs of 1946 onwards, at Notlands Coppice. Workings are first depicted here on the Parish Tithe Map of approximately 1838-48 and a quarry and associated limekiln are depicted here on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s. Aerial photographs of 1946 onwards show four irregular to oval shaped earthwork pits within an area of approximately 1.13 hectares and measuring up to 76m in length. The quarries are located in an area where a number of similar such features have been recorded. They remain visible as earthwork pits on Lidar-derived images of between 1998-2014 and are also partly depicted on the 2015 Ordnance Survey MasterMap.
