Bull pen; Shippon. West range of late 19th century stockyard. Low single storey range, gable-ended to north and adjoining milking parlour to south. 3 compartments. Chert walls with brick dressings. Slate roof. A-frame roof structure. 4 bays in same style as adjacent milking parlour. Door/s; Timber window/s. East front has 3 doorways but northern one (bullpen) wider. All contain probably original plain frames containing plank doors. Original opening in north end wall now contains late 20th century window. Feeding rack; Tethering post/s; Timber stalls; Timber trough/s. Divided into 3 stalls by probably original timber plank partitions. Smaller northern stall was the bull pen and includes a stout timber tethering post. This refurbished circa 1999 with new concrete floor. Others have original grooved pavoirs. Southern stall has 19th century timber trough and feeding rack. It also connects with adjacent root store. Vertical straight join in north wall indicates that western part (and west wall) incorporated from earlier building which extended to south and returned a short distance east (more evidence in milking parlour – BH009.6). A building is shown here on the 1840 Tithe map. Building is currently disused.
Ordnance Survey, 2013, MasterMap (Cartographic). SDV350786.
