HER Number:MDV103760
Name:Uppacott Mill, Moretonhampstead

Summary

Uppacott Mill is documented in the mid 19th century. Site was owned by the Earl of Devon in 1851 when a barn containing thrashing machinery and stored grain was destroyed due to arson, along with another incident at Howton Farm nearby. 1857 plans survive for a new barn with water wheel (probably overshot) of around 20ft diameter. First Edition OS mapping shows a leat and millpond running to the barn, above and across the lane to Clifford Bridge. An overflow on the leat was still 'live' in 2005. No mention of a waterwheel when the farm was let in 1908.
