Full description

Brushfield, T. N., 1894, The Churchwardens' Accounts of East Budleigh, 364 (Article in Serial). SDV107199.

The parish church must have possesed an organ many years prior to 1535 (the first year of the accounts), as a new one, to replace an old instrument, was purchased in 1538-1539. It was repaired in 1560-1561. The present organ was supplied about 1844. A bass viol was bought in 1766-1768 for 8 shillings, strings for it and "reed for the heatboy" are frequent entries in the accounts till the end of the century. A new hautboy was bought about 1844.
