Full description
Devon and Somerset County Councils, 2000-2002, Historic Farmsteads Database, BH174.2 (Machine readable data file). SDV349681.
Stable. A long, lofted stable block, built with the threshing barn. It is now divided into three sections. The southern section has been incorporated into the barn's conversion to domestic use. The other two sections are used for storage. Rubble stone walls. Corrugated iron roof. Tie beam truss. A five-bay roof of tie beam trusses. The apex has a mortise and tenon joint held with two pegs. There are three sets of back purlins and a double diagonal ridge. Door/s; timber window/s. The door into the stable, in the northeast facing wall, has a solid, pegged frame and a ledge and brace door. The ledges are chamfered. It is held on strap hinges. To the left of the door is a small, 20th century timber framed window with glazing bars. In the gable end, there is a loading hatch, with a 20th century frame and a plank door held on strap hinges. At ground floor level, there is a tiny timber-framed window with timber shutters. Feeding gap; Feeding rack; Hayloft; Tack pegs. The south section of the stable is now a part of the barn conversion. It has one axial beam which supported the loft floor. It is now ceiled. The two northern sections are divided by a 20th century partition with a door through. There is a feeding gap along the rear wall, and a timber feeding rack. A tack peg board remains. The loft floor is supported on two axial beams and joists. The floor is concrete over cobbles. Currently used for domestic utility/storage.
