A nissen hut of Second World War date is visible as a structure on aerial photographs of 1943 onwards within New Ground, Dartmouth. The single nissen hut measures approximately 32m long by 9.5m wide and was likely utilised by American troops as accommodation or for possible storage of equipment as part of the preparations for the Normandy landings. The nissen hut remains visible as a structure on aerial photographs of 1945, and by 1946 only the foundation base of the former structure is visible. The foundation base remains visible as a structure until 1951 and by 1959 has been completely removed and the site replaced with a car park.
