Whelan, J. + Hawkes, J., Dec 2005, Archaeological Monitoring during Redevelopment of the former Topsham Middle School, Parkfield Road, Topsham, Devon (Report - Watching Brief). SDV355794.

The headmaster's house is a two storey detached building. Constructed of brick with stone quoins and door casings under a slate roof. The materials and ornamentation match the main school building. The house comprises an adjoining north and south wing with a central porch in the east elevation. A cross wing to to the rear (west) runs the width of the building with attached buildings forming a courtyard. The latter were removed during the conversion works. There was a second entrance on the north side. Due to the dangerous condition of the structure only limited observations could be made of the interior which had been extensively vandalised. The house had more recently been used as school offices and as an annex to the school. However, some original or early fireplaces still survived.
