Prehistoric flints collected from Pinn Beacon mainly in the 19th century included scapers, cores, flakes and blades. They probably date to the Palaeolithic.
Flints collected by P O Hutchinson in 1873 from Pinn Beacon Hill include 3 scrapers, 2 worked flakes, 3 blades and a knife - possibly Palaeolithic. The P O Hutchinson Collection of flint implements from the Pin Beacon area is now in Rougemont Museum in Exeter.
Four scrapers found at Pinn Beacon Hill mounted on open box. 1 round-ended with retouched sides; 1 triangular scraper with rounded tip & retouched sides; 1 small steep-sided oval almost heeled scraper, retouched all around up to central ridge; 1 thick crescent-shaped scraper - end retouched.
Flint implements found at Pinn Beacon Hill. A.4077 a long blade-like flake with worn edges; A.4097 ra blade with one retouched edge, one worn edge & the tips retouched; A.4098 a flat small blade-like flake with worn edges; A.4099 a very small blade-like flake; A.4100 a blade with retouched worn edges.
A.4116 a mottled gery-white thick flake found at Pinn Hill Beacon with nearly parallel sides, retouched all round with two blunted ends.
A4066 two flint cores found at Pinn Hill Beacon (marked 'missiles' in Museum Collection).
Flint implements found at Pinn Beacon Hill. A.4073 a large grey-white round-ended scaper; A.4113 & A.4074 round-ended scapers; A.4108 grey-white straight scraper; A.4110 a grey-white side scraper.
Six flint scrapers found at Pinn Beacon Hill. 74/1949 was one core with rebate; A.4085 and A.4086 two hollow scapers found on 14th March 1873; A.4087 found on 27th December 1872; A.4088 a brown/grey mottled flake with aflat point central ridge with two flake scars, one edge retouched, the other edge worn or broken & the tip retouched found on 27th March 1873; A.4070 a core found on 9th August 1872.
A.4089 a flint tool found under the surface at Pinn Hill Beacon. It is the snapped off tip of a blade or flake 48mm long x 33mm wide with the edge retouched to make a round-ended scraper.

Struck and worked flints recovered from Pin Beacon area include scrapers, flakes, blades and a knife. Some material of possible Palaeolithic date. Other flint finds have been made at SY 09 87.
