The former extraction pit is visible as an earthwork pit.

An extraction pit of probable post-medieval to modern date is visible as an earthwork pit on digital images derived from LiDAR data captured between 1998-2012, within Big Wood. The former clay or gravel pit is sub-oval in shape, measures approximately 30m in length by 23.5m in width and is partly defined as a pond on the 2014 Master Map. It is located within an area dominated by similar such pits, many of which are similarly depicted as ponds. Owing to the dense tree coverage within Big Wood, the extraction pit was not visible on aerial photographs made available to the survey.
