An extensive area of disused quarries, probably limstone extraction of medieval to post-medieval date is depicted on the Ordnance Survey 25 inch first edition map and is visible as earthwork pits and mounds on digital images derived from Lidar data, overlooking the coast at Branscombe Beach. The ground disturbance visible on the Lidar images is more extensive than depicted on the Ordnance Survey 25 inch first edition map and the extent of the disturbance has therefore been transcribed. The earthworks are annotated as Old Quarries on the Ordnance Survey 25 inch first edition map and therefore probably passed out of use some time prior to the 1880s.
