Field called Walk Mead on Tithe Map/Tithe Apportionment (Tithe Apportionment No.126 ). The 'walk' element has been associated with the Old English 'welacan' meaning 'land on which the fulling of cloth took place' (citing Field, 1972). No mill site has been identified in the area and it seems ?possible that the name may refer to a trackway. A trackway against the west boundary of the field leads to Borcombe Farm.
