Orchard banks of probable post-medieval to modern date are visible as a series of linear earthwork banks on aerial photographs of 1946 onwards, to the south of Gingerland. The site of the orchard is first mentioned on the parish tithe apportionment of 1838-48, although had evidently been cleared by the time of the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s. The surviving earthwork banks are north to south aligned, occupy an area of approximately 0.32 hectares of north facing slope and appear to be partly truncated by a possible catch meadow gutter. The orchard banks remain visible as slight earthworks on digital images derived from Lidar data captured during 2005 and from aerial photographs taken in 2010.
